Everyone who know us well knows, my husband and I are two very different people, yet I am still crazy about this man. When he calls me from work, excited out of his mind because it still surprises him that he gets to work with excavators and dump trucks, and he wishes his grandsons could be with him to see it, he makes my heart smile. We recently celebrated 28 years married. My Leslie drew this as one of our decorations for the party (we did have a Barbie theme party for Founder's Day this year)<br />

What I really want to say today is: This is it. This is what I dreamed of, and maybe every little girl is hoping for when she dreams of marrying a tall, dark and handsome man that will treat her well and have a family together. When I'm falling asleep, and I feel Nathan's toe reach over to touch my leg, because he sleeps better that way, that for me is true, deep, sweet love; perfect contentment. I wish it for everyone. No one is perfect here, not even for one day, but through the mercy of Jesus Christ we repent and move forward. Not all the days or moments are happy: the first picture I posted is two very tired people united after five weeks of missing each other, a very long drive and a crazy car crash<br />

Twenty eight years ago, we made sacred promises to each other and to Heavenly Father in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a holy place. We have had divine help and support from this one choice over and over. This is what holds us together and makes the happily ever after possible. Our Father in Heaven has been so good to us. We love each other, and we love Him. I just feel so blessed.Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13924540871455014648noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3833961081015993133.post-79103541509606396822017-12-17T15:47:00.000-08:002017-12-17T15:49:38.741-08:00Christmas Letter<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="MsoNormal">
Dear Family and Friends,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Hello! I am feeling grateful and blessed at this Christmas
season and wanted to reach out and wish you Merry Christmas and the Happiest of
New Years! Our family has had a
monumental change this year, we have moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan! A year ago,
I didn’t even know where Kalamazoo was. Now we are trying to settle in and make
friends and learn our way around our new city. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We are enjoying Michigan in general. It is such a pretty
place! We arrived for the fall colors and bought some produce from a roadside
stand in late October. We have taken two trips (about an hour drive) to visit
Lake Michigan and it is WOW! I’ve seen my first light houses (there are 150
them here in the state) and walked the sand—yes it was chilly, but loved every
minute! Now we are experiencing the first of the winter storms. So far, we seem
to be located in a more protected area. Some schools closed last week west of
us (closer to the lake), but we were functional all week. We will wait and see
how the winter goes.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Nate has had to return to Salt Lake 3 times, for a combined
total of 4 weeks. Ugh! That hasn’t been fun to have the family separated, but
he is now coming home again from what we hope is the last trip for a while. He
has been working hard to finish real estate deals there and preparing our own
home to sell. We felt strongly about the timing when we left, but knew it would
mean some of this kind of sacrifice to fix what still needed work in Salt Lake.
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have been called to finish teaching out this year of
seminary. Caleb is in my class (there are 15 youth on my roles) and we travel
25 min. each morning to hold class at 6 a.m. It is a humbling, and wonderful
calling. Nate also has a new calling; he will serve as the Cub master! (Pack
meeting, here we come!)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The kids have made friends in the ward, and a couple in our
neighborhood, although I’m sure there must be more kids around us, we just
haven’t found them yet. We have spent a lot of time cleaning up the house
(which had been a rental for some time) and finding furniture to replace all we
left behind. We still have a ways to go on that, but we can sit down
comfortably now, and we count that a bonus.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I wanted to thank all of you who helped us move! We couldn’t
have done it without you! We felt loved and supported in everything by all of
you wonderful people! Thank you!! We miss you! It is hard to leave those you
love. We have also appreciated efforts to stay in touch with us, like phone
calls and letters and emails and even packages. Thank you!!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
We hope you are well!
Christ lives! His birth was the glad tidings of great joy! May you all
have joy this Christmas! Love, Jenny and Nathan and Family<o:p></o:p></div>

The last two weeks have been a blur! After great preparations, these two wonderful youth went out to test their mettle against the Wyoming wilderness. They dress like pioneers and pull handcarts to remember the sacrifice and effort put forth by our ancestors. They both had a very good time. They covered 35-40 miles in 4 days and felt a great deal of accomplishment, though it exhausted them. Now as we drive down the road and see an off ramp that indicates it is 1 mile ahead, Camille always says, "I can walk that."<br />
<br />
Last week I drove to Idaho to pick up my Leslie, as her college term concluded and she is on break for several months. (Welcome Home, Sweetie!) While I was there, my grandma Joy gave us a batch of fun hats that she crochets to keep her hands busy. I have to show you the hats, and the party feeling that accompanied the distributing of such a great thing!<br />

We also celebrated Jake's 21st birthday this weekend. What he was wishing for this year is that he doesn't have to wait much longer to meet his baby that is due in August. Yes, people, I'm going to be a grandma! Yay for our family to continue to grow!!!</div>

We had an extended family dinner at Dave and Tiffany's lovely home. They live conveniently across the street from a big fireworks show and concert, so we watched those too. Yay!<br />

Jake made sure the cousins all had a little fireworks fun of their own. Grateful for our freedoms. Grateful to those who have sacrificed so much for them. There is a parade. The longer we live here, the better it gets, because we know more of the people on parade. Sometimes my scouts have had a chance to participate, and this year, Caleb and Ethan carried the banner for the Governor's Award.<br />

For the last three years, we have watched the live concerts and fireworks with this fun crew. This year we were supposed to hear Elton John and Billy Joel impersonators, and we did for a time, but a power outage cut the concert short. No problem we have friends for this.<br />

Except Caleb...he does have a great Bailey friend, but his counterpart was at scout camp. Better luck next year lone wolf.<br />
<br />
The good news is that they found a generator so we could focus on some fabulous fireworks, and have music to go with them. Phew.<br />

I spent a large part of April costuming a play that Miriam was in. I had a great time getting to know the youth and making and gathering costumes. The play was Shakespeare's As You Like It. (Sorry to those cut off by my questionable photography skills.)<br />

Ethan just turned 11! Can you believe it? Now the kid who always wanted to be part of a scout troop is! He goes to <a href="http://www.mightymcallisters.blogspot.com/2010/02/camp-tracy.html">Camp Tracy</a> with his troop next week.<br />
<br />
Summer is in full swing, which for the last many years means that half the family is gone at any one time. Camille is at camp this week and spent last week babysitting for her cute cousins. Caleb has attended the Big Event scout camp already and the two of them are involved in Trek preparations. Miriam spent a week in Heber with Paul and Nelda helping with little cousins and having fun with them. We miss having a crew around the table and are thinking about taking a leaf out of it, so we don't look so lonely!<br />
<br />
I am trying to keep all my new plants watered and saying sweet things to my garden so it will grow. Also keep thinking about that new grandbaby that is on the way in only 8 short weeks! Wow!<br />

Caleb left for scout camp last Monday. When he did, his room looked like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvWKWJwJn1Bnxq15Jc0trsrJTv_fZYLyUF1Sb6nv3joseGvv4ojL7j3QLYunxVe7b6QdhMsCvB-o_W7pnY8BNI-NiW3GBCwvLuq6Mi6vs6uo2Gcxa-I4nWtF6qLTBGYdpYb3NbFn0HxDc/s1600/SAM_3599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvWKWJwJn1Bnxq15Jc0trsrJTv_fZYLyUF1Sb6nv3joseGvv4ojL7j3QLYunxVe7b6QdhMsCvB-o_W7pnY8BNI-NiW3GBCwvLuq6Mi6vs6uo2Gcxa-I4nWtF6qLTBGYdpYb3NbFn0HxDc/s320/SAM_3599.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
but messier. Not two hours after he left, Leslie had the idea to re-do his room while he was gone. Camille is done with her summer job, so she was on board too. </div>

Just in case you have forgotten what we all look like...we had a bit of a insta-family photo. Actually, the kids wanted to know if we could all fit on the couch. We were at that point of family home evening apparently. Aren't they fun? I love this crew more than I can ever say.<br />

Also, Nate and I just returned from a trip to St. George with some lovely friends who grew up there and showed us all the must see places. Wow! What incredible country that is! The rocks and the colors really get into your soul. (This gorgeous photo was taken by my friend Jessi)</div>

Nathan has been selling houses since January. We are just taking life one day at a time, hoping the Lord will show us our path a bit each day, but we are still here.</div>

You may remember that a long time ago, Jacob finished up his scouting Eagle project. And then the paperwork sat around for awhile. But it was finally done too, and in June, Jake was officially an Eagle. But, he and three friend have all been waiting on each other, and apparently the right moment, to have their Eagle court. Sunday the 9th of December, it happened! And what a wonderful evening with friends and family around! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglTvHIJFx7VBu3Drjrf73Qy7r3GzoGV06gZLTmvXiinxETfpnO4Sznec9IR0gMBUIzsEqLzZ11tuB60lgBEwTLMTz_RDgrltwCcMnbUFJ9XqxgeayeHd9q-xHjSChqeC_ROUMOUgtTQNk/s1600/eagle+court+jenny40+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglTvHIJFx7VBu3Drjrf73Qy7r3GzoGV06gZLTmvXiinxETfpnO4Sznec9IR0gMBUIzsEqLzZ11tuB60lgBEwTLMTz_RDgrltwCcMnbUFJ9XqxgeayeHd9q-xHjSChqeC_ROUMOUgtTQNk/s320/eagle+court+jenny40+014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Left to right, this is Teren Jameson, scoutmaster for many years for this group of boys, Randy Ivins, Skyler Williams, Jacob, and Parker Mack. This is the part of the court where they shared some favorite stories from camps, and some funny things were told on each other. By the look on Jake's face, I'm guessing this one was on him.</div>
<br />

This is Steve Thunnell, a favorite scout leader of Jake's, they got along so well with each other, and Steve was instrumental in the project Jacob chose, and in encouraging him to get it done. Steve presented Jacob with his award.<br />

This is Dad, putting on Jake's neckerchief. I pinned on his award. Then they let each of us take a minute to say a couple of things about Jake, or about scouting. I talked about the many things scouting has given to Jake. He loves it. It has been so good for him, a highlight of his teenage years. Nathan quoted Lord Baden Powell about scouting preparing young men for the second coming of the Savoir. This is in part in memory of Grandpa McAllister, who said the same things at Nathan's Eagle court.</div>

A boy never gets his eagle alone. This group of men have all been leaders at one point or other along the path. There are surely others who were not there too. And there are parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles who encourage and help. The whole story is on the faces of these four young men! What a happy evening!</div>

Here I must state that I am devastated to not have a picture of Caleb in full costume! I can't believe I don't! This is what he looked like, all week:</div>

Leslie made her costume too. At Young Women's, the girls decorated witch hats and wore them to visit Gardener Village (a posh spot for witches this time of year.) Note the rat. eeeewww.</div>

Dad's crew for trick or treating this year. Seems it gets smaller and smaller as there are good friends that like to go together. Sigh. I guess we really do want them to grow up.... Seth's costume is called Leopard Cheetah. He carried a small whittled spear and had me draw scratches down his face from his latest encounter with a saber tooth tiger. Happy Halloween!</div>

Ethan and Seth were behind me in the room and forced their way through my attention barrier as the volume rose. I heard Ethan saying, "Wider! Wider! <b>Wider</b>!" I looked around to see he was staring into Seth's open mouth. Every time the "Wider!" command would come, Seth would try to comply, not by opening his jaw wider, but by re-arranging his lips. The effect was that his mouth would get smaller and smaller, so the command would sound again, "Wider!"<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One of the things that come with being a mom for a long time is the patience to let them be happy noisily, if they are not injuring someone or something. So I just carried on, more or less tuning out the boisterous oral examination, until there came a break in the constant yelling. A silent pause, then I hear Ethan say, "I can see your gizzard." </div>
<div>

<div>
Tomorrow we'll talk about Halloween.</div>

I am not complaining--I been having a great time camping, it is the sleeping part that is tricky!<br />
<br />
First I went to youth conference with Leslie and Camille. We had a great time, but I didn't take a single photo. Not of them killing thistle for the camp ground as a service project, not of them touring downtown Salt Lake and meeting the church patriarch (who is over 100 years old), not even of them playing keep away in the water at Deer Creek reservoir. <br />
<br />
My next camping took place in my sister's field for our Jacobson Family reunion--which was over the 4th of July and great fun!<br />

Mostly the boys squirted the girls and the girls squirted the boys. But Leslie loves the water so much, that if any one was squirting, she was in the middle of it. :)<br />

We visited the Idaho Falls temple grounds and visitor center, where we ran into Sister Kinghorn, who was a friend of my Great Grandma Josie. She shared with our children a bit about my grandma. Pretty sweet.<br />

One of my favorite funny things from reunion was pulling into my sister's house and knowing I was in the right place because there were 5 other Suburban-type vehicles there. We went around Idaho Falls that day like a presidential motorcade. Here we are all parked at the temple. My sister said there are 43 of us...takes a lot of seat belts to do that!<br />
<br />
Now, I have returned from my last planned camp for the summer: Young Women's Camp. I haven't been to camp since I was a young woman myself, so I was happy to go again! We loaded my big suburban with all the bodies it could hold and traveled to Camp Hansen (near Tremonton) to participate in our stake camp.<br />

One thing I have decided though, is that when we have a job again, I would really like to buy a fat foam mattress so all the parts of camp are nice, even the sleeping.Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13924540871455014648noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3833961081015993133.post-26839001272763074962012-07-02T09:14:00.003-07:002012-07-02T09:14:35.506-07:00Some Birthdays, Some Paint, Some SillinessWe are trying to get the house ready to sell. We decided to do this on May 1--which is also Miriam's birthday. Since then, my brain has been sucked by aliens and I am completely unreliable. (Actually slept through a meeting this afternoon. Sigh.) But, we have had three birthdays in that time. I did take photos and here they are.<br />

I am here to announce that Camille made the <span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Eisenhower Jr. High cheer leading squad!</span> <span style="font-size: x-large;">Woot, Woot!</span> She has been working hard ever since to learn a dance, some cheers and some stunts for the end of the year assembly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXDzey7JImQ32CpCzG_Yp42SEWSF6lqV5Z5A-W2JLYbCQZHh0LlpBZtPliRt5lE4aV6RFfQMrdKuN1vT9IPtm-HPH7OQ7kJZOcpGYyi0ebEItlU8Se3amYCREFoPQD8apTowlPQLFkZZo/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXDzey7JImQ32CpCzG_Yp42SEWSF6lqV5Z5A-W2JLYbCQZHh0LlpBZtPliRt5lE4aV6RFfQMrdKuN1vT9IPtm-HPH7OQ7kJZOcpGYyi0ebEItlU8Se3amYCREFoPQD8apTowlPQLFkZZo/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: white;"> Some of her great friends also made the team, so she has some wonderful girls to cheer with. She is tall enough that they don't throw her. (I consider that a blessing.) But when they do stunts, she serves as a back spot--meaning that she is in charge of catching anyone they do drop...I'm pretty sure you can get hurt doing that too! Anyway, Camille, I am proud of you! Your bubbly personality was meant to help cheer people through life, so it makes sense that they would choose you. </span><br />

That IS the organ from the famous Mormon Tabernacle behind my children in their Heralders choir! This spring, the choir was invited to participate in the Salt Lake Choral Festival. They have this at the tabernacle annually, and each year one children's choir is invited to participate--this year we had that honor. Seth, Ethan, Miriam and Caleb are all on that stage. They had the opportunity to hold 2 practices in the tabernacle and one performance. Their show was 50 minutes of music and dancing featuring music from around the world and in several languages. <span style="color: #0b5394; font-size: large;"> It was AWESOME!</span> Photo opportunities were limited inside, so here is the very excited crew after they finished<br />

They worked so hard for this opportunity. Practices could have them standing on their feet and singing for up to two hours sometimes. The extra work paid off, they did a great job. So show us how you really feel to be done kids.</div>

Leslie was the one clever enough to put it together and call it a banana-versary. We decorated in yellow and invited every one to wear yellow. The little boys got a bit carried away.<br />

We have made several attempts at a visit this winter, all of them foiled by one thing or other. I'm glad to see family again. These pictures make me smile, as they are almost exactly like <a href="http://www.mightymcallisters.blogspot.com/2011/04/conference-weekend.html">the ones from last year</a>--but we are all a little older. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSjlm7jmJjOnT8Gb1ug9PPxR1EHij1_zEz8MWQcuTaq8jkQQ_lihWCtniLQoyYYCGgSlQ6VTQphqBmIZJlUaRhSMg_IXQ5YOaoYj9xz6PeVri4W0h6DYbpI2RKxbAv_2RkkQJPayYwFNA/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSjlm7jmJjOnT8Gb1ug9PPxR1EHij1_zEz8MWQcuTaq8jkQQ_lihWCtniLQoyYYCGgSlQ6VTQphqBmIZJlUaRhSMg_IXQ5YOaoYj9xz6PeVri4W0h6DYbpI2RKxbAv_2RkkQJPayYwFNA/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Some of us even sit in the same places. :) I love the expression on Ethan's face, he looks like he is not exactly voluntarily participating. Grandma always boosts participation numbers by lollipop bribes.<br />

We also helped deliver grandma's Easter baskets. She loves to treat some of the people in her community with Easter pleasantries, and we have become the delivery squad. We like it. The cousins all pile in which ever car and take turns playing Easter Bunny all around town.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7HK-HTp1EUtxD-3jWrAgWrDSuIPygGoyqOgKSM7j0gUom8G7hV0_UtW_jn1uvjpeAOQ0P_XJK5CV8PEL3B9CcJnk0ohMCIO3HWhYmo4yOjeRpWIGWUxb3i5CTiiO2lZaufZ7dU62c9_c/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7HK-HTp1EUtxD-3jWrAgWrDSuIPygGoyqOgKSM7j0gUom8G7hV0_UtW_jn1uvjpeAOQ0P_XJK5CV8PEL3B9CcJnk0ohMCIO3HWhYmo4yOjeRpWIGWUxb3i5CTiiO2lZaufZ7dU62c9_c/s320/015.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>We did have Easter. It was a lovely weekend. We spent Saturday helping Dave and Tiffany's family move into their new home. I was pleased to watch the kids haul load after load from house to truck, truck to house again and again. I had questioned in my head if Seth was too young and would be in the way, but he was a serious force of moving power--he couldn't take anything big, but he made trip after trip with anything he could carry, always with an infectious smile on his face. It was fun. We hope their new home will be a loved blessing in their lives.<br />
<br />
Sunday highlight for this mother was singing in the church choir with Nathan, Jacob, Leslie, Camille and Miriam. We sang one song, then sat for a talk and sang another. It was an intense few minutes as a mother sitting on the stand watching my younger boys on the bench and hoping like crazy that Ethan, Seth and Caleb wouldn't start world war 3 in my absence, but they were good too. So we had a peace-filled day, finishing it among our loved McAllister family for a meal and visiting.<br />
<br />
I love Easter. I love to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, to sing his praises, and taste a bit of the joy that we can have surrounded by our loved ones forever thanks to his care and sacrifice for us.Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13924540871455014648noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3833961081015993133.post-72724889811776121592012-03-22T07:42:00.000-07:002012-03-22T07:42:02.568-07:00Not Our Bunnies Jake is up in Idaho, doing some work. Just before he left, his friend bought two bunnies, and Jake built them a cage, and they are living in my back yard. I didn't give permission for the bunnies, but since they are not our bunnies, then I suppose that doesn't matter. They have been here for about two weeks now, and Ethan and Miriam, Caleb and Seth <span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;">LOVE</span> them with very big hearts. I have a bit of a soft spot for bunnies too, which is why the bit o'fluffs are still with us. I keep reminding people that these are NOT OUR BUNNIES! But I'm not sure that message is sinking in.<br />

Ethan and Luke (this poor bunny had the unfortunate experience of being named by a friend of Jake's, his full name is Lucifer...but I try to encourage the kids to call him Luke, or maybe, as with Polly, he should really be Lucy...It is hard to tell on baby bunnies.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The continuing saga of the bunnies: We had a storm 4 days ago and Luke escaped from his cage in the night. Under cover of darkness, he fled, and we have yet to find him or his remains. Remember this guy?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Rex IS our dog. He is fascinated by the new friends which share his yard. He thinks they have very tasty poop and he likes to sit under the cage, but if he were to find a fluffy friend on the loose, I think he wouldn't hesitate to play with it...he probably wouldn't mean any harm. (He never does.) Who knows where that bunny went?! Rex isn't telling if he knows. Jake just hoped they (bunnies) had time to make baby bunnies before Luke R-U-N-N-O-F-T. I pray that if they did, Polly is Paul.</div>

This post will be covering a lot of ground! First: Christmas. We had the best Christmas present days before when Nathan was miraculously given a new job. We feel so grateful and blessed! Here are some of our Christmas morning photos.<br />

Probably that is a bad habit that will bite me back one day. At least that is what I think every time I drive my kids to school in my fuzzy purple bathrobe. My bathrobe does double duty as a coat, house dress, and blanket. Considering the utility of such a garment, I really should spend the money to get a good one. The one I have needs another 10 inches of fabric in the front panel. Then my chicken legs, stuffed into my snow boots wouldn't flash you when I get into my huge suburban each morning. I watch for my neighbor to start his truck to warm up and go back into his house, then I race out in my fuzzy robe and start scraping the windows frantically on that big vehicle and pray he doesn't come back out until I have climbed into the seat of my charger. May I never break down. May I never be stopped by a policeman. I tell myself it wouldn't matter--I really no longer have any personal pride.<br />
<br />
I guess I could get out of bed and actually get dressed, but my bathrobe seems such a comforting friend on chilly mornings. I huddle wrapped in it for scriptures. I pad down the halls to wake kids in it. I cook and eat breakfast in it. It really is almost as warm as a coat for my morning outings. Sigh. I do get a bit nervous if I have to answer the door in it. It isn't attractive. Another reason to consider replacing it with a million dollar version.<br />
<br />
I used to drive my kids to an elementary school that was on a hill. At the time I drove a tall van. One morning, after dropping my kids off and turning around for home, I arrived at the crest of the hill when a dad in a sedan was driving up. From my perch I could clearly see down into his car, where wrapped over an undershirt he was sporting his wife's silky turquoise, lace-trimmed bathrobe as he was driving kids to school. I am not alone. Not in this brave outerwear, or in the need to replace it!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13924540871455014648noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3833961081015993133.post-52218394345019723192011-12-03T20:43:00.000-08:002011-12-03T20:43:25.887-08:00Christmas Choir<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyprX1k7Q4BWJ7AvLx5BD4lfPQyIri-YBv2OUG3IPcZjsMIHYD6EUY2_TZUXqBdlJcoR5g0mbPWEXQaawOblSV2mzrhKQD9pqHtG24IRgFupzNF9PxTPnpwM4MdYQLO8Oo-COExVEtddw/s1600/choir+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyprX1k7Q4BWJ7AvLx5BD4lfPQyIri-YBv2OUG3IPcZjsMIHYD6EUY2_TZUXqBdlJcoR5g0mbPWEXQaawOblSV2mzrhKQD9pqHtG24IRgFupzNF9PxTPnpwM4MdYQLO8Oo-COExVEtddw/s320/choir+007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Part of our homeschool curriculum this year has Caleb, Miriam and Ethan learning to sing with the Heralders Children's Choir. Tis the season for their Christmas performances. Today was a bit of a marathon as they performed multiple times. This photo is singing for the Santa breakfast. They sang so well! The music consisted of old carols from around the world. Some of the songs they sang are:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Friendly Beasts</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Wren</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Fum Fum Fum</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Jinglin Bells</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Deck the Halls</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Lord of the Dance</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The whole program takes about 30 minutes and includes some dancing and solo performances.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEqIcWDMZXMyXZYMQ1D285sSFdXr1bge_6C7H01E3pZzlNehCxO5uBGsT_bVjfrRFW16ZknwaMXYbnEuqocIxiqiJY8DFmh_wHuPbeUwkI5v1plElAKqYOfbiSNtEzjOxybv5I4iKBEL4/s1600/choir+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEqIcWDMZXMyXZYMQ1D285sSFdXr1bge_6C7H01E3pZzlNehCxO5uBGsT_bVjfrRFW16ZknwaMXYbnEuqocIxiqiJY8DFmh_wHuPbeUwkI5v1plElAKqYOfbiSNtEzjOxybv5I4iKBEL4/s320/choir+008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This photo was taken between performances. (in total, he probably sang for over 3 hours today). This is a special performance where the older choir was able to perform at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square they sang Vivaldi's "Gloria", which is in Latin. I was so pleased with Caleb for memorizing all of this! They sounded remarkable. Caleb is on the right in the back row, third boy in.<br />
<br />
No photo is available of the choir's self-proclaimed head groupies: Leslie and Camille. They cheered for the kids and got to know many of the choir members. We are all exhausted and happy!
